Module 1Introduction to Device Shadow Management for IoT

Definition of device shadow and digital twin, industrial and home automation use cases, presentation of main providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, open source). Basic architecture and usage patterns. Practical examples of scenarios where the device shadow facilitates development and maintenance.

Module 2Implementing a Device Shadow and State Management

Synchronization between physical device and cloud representation – reading and writing desired and reported states. Delta concepts. Implementing a shadow with AWS IoT Core: creation, use via console, SDK and CLI. Practical cases: connected sensor, actuator. Comparison with open source solutions. Demonstrations and practical exercises.

Module 3Securing, Scaling and Industrializing the Device Shadow

Security (authentication, encryption, access control), multi-device rights management, scalability strategies. Resilience and monitoring: error detection, state update issues, persistence management. Examples of problem resolutions (loss of synchronization, corrupted shadow, concurrent access). Final workshop: deployment of a complete architecture integrating multiple objects and automated management of their device shadows.
