Introduction to Amazon Athena and the AWS Data Analytics ecosystem. Overview of S3 storage, data organization principles, and permissions. First steps with Athena: interface, initial SQL queries, and understanding usage-based billing. Practical workshops: querying an S3 bucket, exploring supported formats (CSV, Parquet, JSON).
Module 2Data Modeling and Query Optimization in Athena
Creating and managing schemas and external tables via Glue. Using partitions and optimized formats (Parquet, ORC). Advanced queries: joins, aggregations, date handling. Performance optimization and cost reduction: best practices, metrics visibility. Security: access management, data encryption, query auditing. Practical exercises: creating partitioned tables, optimizing queries, fine-grained rights management.
Module 3Automation, Integration, and Real-World Use Cases
Automating analysis with Athena using AWS Lambda, Step Functions, and Python scripts (Boto3). Exporting and visualizing results (QuickSight, Tableau). Data Lake and data governance. Real enterprise cases: log exploitation, automated reporting, integration into data pipelines. Hands-on work: automating Athena query execution, building a QuickSight dashboard, monitoring and cost analysis.
