Concepts of proxy, mapping, input and output parameter management. Demonstration of integration with Lambda for a serverless backend endpoint. Practical exercises exposing a microservice via API Gateway.
Implementation of IAM strategies to control API access. Use of Lambda authorizers and authentication with Amazon Cognito/JWT/OAuth2. Management of quotas, throttling, and DoS protection. Modeling, validation, and transformation of payload schemas (mapping templates, JSON Schema validation). Integrations with DynamoDB, S3, and other AWS services. Practice: secure configuration of a multi-endpoint API and payload validation.
Management of deployment environments (dev, test, prod), stages, and API versioning. Setting up logging, monitoring (CloudWatch), and call traceability. Automating API deployments via AWS CLI, SAM, or CloudFormation. Strategies for managing the API lifecycle in the cloud. Hands-on: automated deployment script, monitoring and debugging, error handling, and performance monitoring.
